Indore is a fascinating city with a blend of a rich cultural and historical heritage hosting a wide range of styles of the Maratha, Mughal, Holkar and British era. Chhatris, Laal Bag Palace, Kanch Mandir are cues of its architectural exellence. Situated on one of India's oldest pilgrimage routes from Mahakaal at Ujjain on river Kshipra, to Omkareshwar on the river Narmada and onwards to Rameshwaram, Indore is embellished by several forts and rocky shrines: Mandu, Dewas, Maheshwar, Omkareshwar being the prominent ones. One of the most legendary rulers of Indian history, Devi Ahilyabai Holkar is the patron of many traditional architecture here. Apart from these, the rustic spirit of Chokhi and Nakhrali Dhani, heritage resorts on the outskirts of Indore filled with varied traditional Rajasthani delicacies adds a Rajasthani flavour to the city. Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore) located in Simrol, Khandwa Road, Madhya Pradesh, is one of the eight new Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India in 2009. IIT Indore has positioned itself as a vibrant center for outstanding research. IIT Indore has been promoting multi-disciplinary research programme, focusing on basic and applied research, technology development and innovation. IIT Indore has the highest h-index among all the new IITs (those started in 2008 and after) etc. The larger commitment of the institute to socio-economic development is evident in its multi-dimensional approach to social problems and is engraved in its motto ('knowledge for the well-being of all'), which makes this institution one of its kind and it stands out even within the distinguished IIT family. Recently, IIT Indore is ranked 15 amongst all engineering universities and institutions in India, and very impressive 5th in teaching and resource category by MHRD (NIRF- 2017). IIT Indore campus is about 45 km away from the Airport and at least 20 km away from the Indore city.
This symposium is mainly meant for young researchers from India and NTU-Singapore interested in the areas of computational mathematics, optimization and computational intelligence. Computational Intelligence is revolutionized in terms of public domain, research by involving machine learning. It is an interdisciplinary paradigm which covers lot of areas of sciences and engineering. There are uncountable numbers of models; researchers are working out by looking at the needs of the public, industry, research and their related problems. In order to provide better solutions for this, computational part involves optimization in its mathematical principles. The three-day symposium will include a couple of key-note talks, series of plenary and invited talks, and paper presentations (oral/poster) by young researchers. It would be beneficial to bring together a group of experts from diverse subfields to discuss recent progress and to share ideas on open questions. Moreover, this will provide an opportunity to all the experts and researchers in this field to meet and interact with each other. In particular,young Indian research scholars will be able to know the recent developments and new avenues of current research activities in the related fields. It will also bring inspiration to undertake their research work and contribute substantially to the existing literature of this field. It will provide early career researchers with a valuable forum to showcase and obtain feedback on their work from leading researchers in the field and gain insights into the open challenges. They will be immensely benefited by having discussions and collaborations with globally renowned peers. This will also put our country on limelight globally in due course of time (even if not immediately) for valuable contributions to this field by our young Indian scholars.
The main purpose of the symposium is to foster NTU-India international cooperation in the broad areas of Computational Mathematics, Optimization and Computational Intelligence, and to promote cross-fertilization and collaboration involving all the potential participants from NTU and India. It will put special emphasis on exposure of PhD students and postdoctoral fellows with the current needs of the technology and science.
The symposium aims to bring ideas and inspiration to their ongoing research work, and to foster conversations between them and the researchers participating in the event. It will be featured by keynote speeches, plenary/invited talks, oral presentations and poster sessions.
